Executive Director

The Orange County Convention and Visitor Bureau (CVB), doing business as Visit French Lick West Baden, is seeking an Executive Director. The Executive Director will work to advance the mission of the CVB by providing strategic vision and direction to the CVB staff, Board of Directors and community partners; to assure the financial strength of the bureau and to lead the organization and its partners to significantly increase the growth of the tourism industry in the region.

A strong leader, with a proven track record, is needed to leverage resources, establish partnerships and foster innovation.

The successful candidate will assume the leadership of the organization and will lead a team of professionals by:

  • Overseeing day-to-day operations of the bureau, ensuring proper fiscal and operational
    management.
  • Planning and implementing goals that positively advance the regional tourism industry while being
    agile enough to identify and act on changes within the tourism market.
  • Serving as the primary voice for tourism in the community, coordinate with local partners to build on French Lick/West Baden and all of Orange County’s renaissance and develop strong relationships
    with local, state, and national tourism leaders.
  • Excellent communication skills will be needed to
    share the story of the destination.
  • Provide dynamic leadership to energize the CVB team.

A four-year degree in marketing or business is preferred, an Associates degree with a minimum of five years of experience in the tourism industry will be considered.

Must be able to travel and hold a valid driver’s license.  This is a full-time salaried position, including a full benefits package. Salary based on
experience and background.

Qualifications:

Executive Director Overview

  • Supervise full-time staff, work with the VFLWB contracted agencies and the BoD / Tourism Commission in the strategic planning process and quarterly/annual review of the strategic plan.
  • Develop an annual implementation plan with the BoD's input and review.
  • Provide vision and strategic insight to the BoD for fulfilling the mission of the VFLWB utilizing input
    from multiple sources, including all staff members.
  • Direct priorities for program activities in a manner that is consistent with the strategic plan and intent of the BoD.
  • Identify new opportunities to leverage resources to maximize the impact of marketing and promotions for Orange County.
  • Attend meetings, and conferences, and review literature to maintain current knowledge of the thinking, issues, and people influencing issues important to the mission of VFLWB.
  • Assess accomplishments and review failures, reporting on them to the BoD for future actions.

Administrative

  • Set the operational policies for the VFLWB and oversee their proper execution.
  • Assemble and manage the VFLWB staff; ensure that VFLWB attracts and retains the talent necessary to successfully carry out its programs and mission; hire and terminate staff members as necessary.
  • Establish compensation policy and levels consistent with review of overall compensation budget.
  • Develop necessary organizational processes and structures.
  • Ensure that VFLWB operates within the financial parameters approved by the BoD, and that available resources are distributed appropriately.
  • Provide fiscal oversight for VFLWB investments, budgets, and financial reporting.
  • Propose annual budgets for VFLWB operations and activities.
  • Monitor monthly financial transactions.
  • Report regularly to the BoD on financial status.

Program Activities

  • Ensure that current programs are consistent with the mission and identify new programs and methods
    to accomplish the mission VFLWB
  • Ensure that programs and services meet the expectations of the BoD and other stakeholders.
  • Provide oversight and guidance on the development of new programs.
  • Maintain and expand current knowledge of the industry through opportunities such as Visit Indiana-IDDC (Indiana Destination Development Corporation), DMAI (Destination Marketing Association
    International) and numerous other marketing and social media forums as well as engagement in lobbying and political efforts.
  • Convene and lead staff discussions regarding strategic, operational, and tactical issues on a regular basis.

Representation

  • Advance the mission and image of the VFLWB by serving as the chief representative of VFLWB to all stakeholders including the BoD, staff, members, association partners, media, government, and the
    general public.
  • Continue to build strong relationships with county leadership.
  • Develop and monitor the VFLWB communication strategy for external positioning.
  • Seek opportunities to speak on the activities of the VFLWB and industry in general, with an emphasis on state tourism groups, association partners and industry meetings.
  • Develop with staff and agency reports, publications, presentations, articles and other communications(including web-based and other social media) to disseminate and promote the activities of VFLWB.
  • Represent VFLWB by sitting on various boards.

Development

  • Identify and develop new sources for revenue.

Board Responsibilities

  • Report monthly to the BoD on the activities of VFLWB and progress toward meeting strategic objectives.
  • Identify legislative issues and policies that require the attention of the BoD working through the Executive Committee.
  • Work with the Board Chair and Executive Committee to structure and guide Board meetings allowing opportunity for discussion and input.
